Given that you’re currently reading this on the Internet its a safe bet to say that Internet access is pretty important to you – and at Barnstondale we don’t feel that should be any different when you’re away.

Subject to availability (and the terms and conditions outlined below) we offer all our guests free Internet access on their laptops and mobile devices, for the duration of their stay. Simply log on to the “Barnstondale” free wifi when you’re on site and enjoy free Internet access on us.

Please be aware that it is an unsecured connection and is used at your own risk. By logging on to the wifi you indicate your acceptance of the conditions outlined below.

The Service

Barnstondale Centre provide free wireless Internet hotspots (Wi-Fi) for
adult visitors aged 18 and over.

The free Wi-Fi service offered within Barnstondale Centre is an open,
unsecured and unfiltered network provided for your convenience; its use is
solely at your own risk.

Please note that no printing facilities are available to Wi-Fi users.

Parental Responsibility and Child Safety on the
Internet

Children and young adults aged under 18 may only use the service under
the adult supervision of a parent or guardian, an adult who is in loco parentis,
or a group coordinator.

It is solely the responsibility of the parent, guardian or adult responsible for
the child to monitor and restrict the content accessed by their children whilst
at Barnstondale Centre. Barnstondale Centre cannot and will not be responsible
for children accessing inappropriate content or using their device(s) inappropriately
whilst connecting to the free wireless network with their own device(s).

Access to the Service

Your access to the Service is completely at the discretion of Barnstondale
Centre, and it may be blocked, suspended, or terminated at any time for
any reason including, but not limited to, violation of Barnstondale Centre’s
Internet Acceptable Usage Policy detailed below, disruption of access to
other Users or networks, and violation of applicable laws or regulations.

Connecting to the Service

You can use your privately owned wireless enabled device (e.g. laptop,
smartphone, PDA) using 802.11a/b/g standards.

The name of the Wi-Fi hotspot (SSID) is barnstondale – this should appear
in your list of Wi-Fi services.

Barnstondale Centre Staff cannot assist you in setting up Wi-Fi access on
your personal laptop or device. You are responsible for setting up your own
equipment; as the configuration of each manufacturer’s device is unique,
please refer to your documentation for connection instructions.

No guarantee is provided that you will be able to make a wireless
connection.

No guarantee is provided that you will be able to access the Internet
service or third party website you require.

Internet Security Warning

The Service provided is not inherently secure and by using the Service, you
acknowledge and knowingly assume all risks with security regards relating
to accessing the Internet over an unsecured network. You also agree to
all terms set forth in the Acceptable Internet Usage Police and Disclaimer
below.

Barnstondale Centre cannot and do not guarantee the privacy or safety of
your data and communication while using the service, and cannot and will
not take responsibility for damage incurred from incorrect, insufficient or
incomplete security settings or lack of up-to-date virus protection.

It is solely the user’s responsibility to configure their device with the
appropriate security settings, firewall and anti-virus protection to control
access from other wireless devices and the Internet itself, without which:
• information sent from or to your laptop can potentially be captured by
anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software;
• you are exposed to programs, such as viruses, worms and Trojans, which
can damage your computer and data;
• your computer may be attacked by unauthorized or unwanted third
parties.
Barnstondale Centre Staff cannot advise you on how to protect yourself
and cannot be responsible for assisting you in setting up security on your
personal device.

Online Banking, other financial services and personal
or confidential data

• Internet access provided by the Service is not secure and should not be
used to transfer financial and other personal or confidential data.
• Barnstondale Centre are not responsible for the misuse of personal
information entered on websites, nor can it guarantee that library
computers will access any purchased Internet content.

Physical Equipment Security Warning

You, the user are solely responsible for the security and safety of your
equipment, papers and personal belongings within Barnstondale Centre.

Please do not leave your wireless laptop, smartphone, PDA or other device
unattended at any time.

Barnstondale Centre cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage
incurred to your personal devices.

Internet Acceptable Usage Policy

By using Barnstondale Centre’ public access Wi-Fi service you are bound
to the relevant UK law, including the Data Protection Act 1998; Parts of the
Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994; Computer Misuse Act 1990;
Copyright, etc. and Trade Marks (Offences and Enforcement) Act 2002,
and agree to abide by it. It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with
all Statutory requirements.

In particular, YOU MUST NOT and by using the Service AGREE NOT TO:

• Deliberately visit, view or download any material from any website
containing pornographic, abusive, racist, violent or illegal material or
material which is offensive in any way whatsoever.
Barnstondale Centre’ decision as to which websites fall into these
categories is final.
• Download any images, text, sound or other material that is in breach of
copyright. Barnstondale Centre accepts no responsibility for any breaches
that may occur.
• Upload or make available to others any material that is offensive,
obscene, indecent, or which infringes the copyright of another person (e.g.
images, MP3 and other audio and video files). The United Kingdom has
strict laws on obscenity and Copyright law is applicable to content on the
Internet.
• Use the Internet for any illegal activity or gambling.
• Use the Internet to harass, cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety
to others. Examples would include abusive or offensive emails, spamming,
distributing information regarding the creation of and sending Internet
viruses, worms, Trojan Horses, pinging, flooding, or denial of service
attacks.
• Access, or attempt to gain access to, computer systems, data or
resources to which they are not authorised, such as connecting to other
user’s resources. By using the service you agree to respect the Privacy of
others.
• Access network services in such a way as to deny reasonable access
to the network for other users, for example, by excessive use of network
bandwidth. This could include the use of FTP servers, MMORPG gaming,
file-sharing software and video streaming.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to restricted part of the network, or
attempt to undermine the integrity or security of any computer systems
or network. You, the user, are responsible for any damage caused to the
computer equipment arising out of any wilful act or negligent misuse.

Breach of the above will lead to users being banned from using the Service
and may result in prosecution.

Barnstondale Centre reserve the right to update or modify the above terms
at any time without prior notice.

Your use of the Service following any such change constitutes your
agreement to follow and be bound by these terms as modified. For this
reason, we encourage you to review these terms whenever you use the
Service

Disclaimer

I. Service provided “AS IS”. This Service provides access to the Internet
on an “as is” basis with all risks inherent in such access. The providers
of the Service make no warranty that the Service or that any information,
software, or other material accessible on the Service is free of viruses,
worms, Trojan horses or other harmful components. By connecting, the
user acknowledges and accepts the risks associated with public access to
the Internet and public use of an unsecured wireless network.

II. Service provided “AS AVAILABLE”. The Service is provided on an “as
available” basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied,
that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, including but not limited
to vagaries of weather, disruption of service, acts of God, warranties of title,
non-infringement, NOR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. No advice or information
given by the providers, affiliates, or contractors
of the service or their respective employees shall create such a warranty.

III. Indemnity. Under no circumstances shall the providers of the Service,
or affiliates, agents, or contractors thereof, be liable for any direct, indirect,
incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages that result in any
way from user’s use of or inability to use the Service or to access the
Internet or any part thereof, or user’s reliance on or use of information,
services or merchandise provided on or through the Service, or that result
from mistakes, omissions, interruptions, deletion of files, errors, defects,
delays in operation, or transmission, or any failure of performance. You
agree to indemnify and hold harmless the providers of the Service,
including affiliates, agents, and contractors thereof, from any claim, liability,
loss, damage, cost, or expense (including without limitation reasonable
legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, any materials
downloaded or uploaded through the Service, any actions taken by you in
connection with your use of the Service, any violation of any third party’s
rights or an violation of law or regulation, or any breach of this agreement.
