With 15 acres of woodland on our site in Wirral, Merseyside, Barnstondale is perfectly placed to offer our exciting range of adventure and outdoor activities.

Schools and groups from across the North West and North Wales visit us to attempt our Wild Wood Challenge, which is just one of the 3 wild wood outdoor activities we offer at Barnstondale. Aimed at older children to adults, Wild Wood Challenge gives participants to test their initiative at building a shelter and then lighting a fire using a steel striker and kindling.

From their new shelter base, they can head off to new adventures as they navigate the woods with compass and map, study the stream and try dam building and learn about some of the trees and plants growing in the wood. This fantastic opportunity to be outdoors and engage in some really fun activities is one of the most popular we offer now.

Young people and adults from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the North West have benefited from taking the Wild Wood Challenge as they discover the joys of getting outdoors and having adventures. The challenge is like an immediate taster for what is there for everyone to discover in the woods, without the longer term commitments of courses like Forest School or Bushcraft.

Come and have your own outdoor activities in the woods at Barnstondale and take the Wild Wood Challenge! Just don’t forget your wellies!
