Its a difficult November this year and it was a tough blow to our hopes of continuing to offer inspiration and opportunities to young people when Barnstondale had to close its gates once again for the second lockdown.
Thanks to some fantastic news, however, this damp and dreary Autumn is feeling a lot more like spring, as Barnstondale has just received a vital funding boost from the Steve Morgan Foundation and the Government’s Community Match Challenge initiative.
We’re incredibly grateful to have received nearly £150,000 and a whole lot more hope to go with it! Thanks to this fantastic generosity we will be able to continue to provide a safe and inclusive environment for people of all abilities to build self-confidence, encourage teamwork and most of all, enjoy! Barnstondale is the charity supporting young people and these funds will go directly towards making that happen.
Just like Barnstondale, the Steve Morgan Foundation is committed to changing lives; Steve himself is Liverpool born and bred and is passionately committed to the region. As he says “To me it is about giving something back and it is a joy to be in a position to be able to help the people who really need it.” To this end the Steve Morgan Foundation was founded in 2001 and works to support projects that help children and families, people with physical or learning disabilities, the elderly, or those that are socially disadvantaged in North Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire.
The numbers – over 1000 grants totalling over £300 Million and over three million individuals supported – only tell part of the story. To discover more about the help and change that these numbers add up to we’d encourage you to read some of the case studies on the Steve Morgan Foundation website.
Introduced in July 2020 by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the Community Match Challenge invited philanthropists, foundations and grant making organisations to put forward new funding applications with a generous offer to match funds raised on a pound for pound basis; the Steve Morgan Foundation is participating in this initiative.
With this vitally needed funding Barnstondale can now look into 2021 with renewed hope of the better days to come for us all and especially for the young people to whom we aim to keep giving the unique opportunities that Barnstondale offers. Just like Steve Morgan says, it is a joy to be in a position to be able to help. Everyone here at Barnstondale is looking forward to sharing that joy in the safe and inclusive environment that we provide.
